Rara National Park and Khaptad National park are surrounded by some of the extraordinary high altitude landscape. These hidden gems in Far West Nepal are some of the uncharted places all around the world. These national parks are known for highly diversified flora and fauna. With more than 567 species of unique flora like montane sal, pine and alder species, different kinds of oaks, firs, medicinal herbs and different variation of rhododendrons, the route presents you with some of the unique spectacles. You will have the opportunity to observe some of the pristine emerald lakes like Rara lake – the largest lake of Nepal and Khaptad lake.
So, pack your bag, put on your trekking shoes and get ready to be dazzle by the wild venture through thick alpine forest, high altitude landscape and some of the remote mountain villages.
Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

You can reach Nepalgunj by taking a flight of 1 hour from Kathmandu. There are also bus services which take you Nepalgunj. At Nepalgunj, our staff member will attend you at the airport. We will manage the lodge for your accommodation. After checking in, we will brief you on the detail of the journey from Rara to Khaptad. You can also explore some of the religious sites like Bageshwari Temple and Lord Shiva temple. We will stay overnight in the Nepalgunj.

Day 2: Nepalgunj to Rara

We will give your wake up call in the early morning. We will take a flight to the airfield of Mugu. An adventurous flight from some of the beautiful landscape will lead you to the Talcha airstrip. After having breakfast from the hotel, we will start our trek toward the Rara lake. The trek will take around three and a half hours. During our trek, you will see a gradual change in landscape and vegetation. After just one hour, you will be able to see a slight glimpse of the Rara lake. After reaching Rara lake, we will stay overnight in tented camps.

Day 3: Exploring Rara Lake

Today we will explore the Rara lake. We will take a short hike to Murmatop where we can have the best view of Rara lake. Besides the magnificent view of Rara Lake, you will also able to see a panoramic view of Kanjirowa mountains. We will pass through some of the high altitude villages. At the evening we will move downhill toward the lake. Rara lake offers some breathtaking a view of the sunset. At night, we will enjoy some spectacular scenery of Rara lake in the starry moonlight.

Day 4: Rara lake to Serkot

On the fourth day, we will move toward the Serkot. After a walk of about an hour from Rara lake, we will reach Majghat. Here, we can rest at the teashop and enjoy some of the spectacular views. After leaving Majghat, we will move toward big pastureland of Murma. We will take some rest in the pastureland. We can enjoy the company of the local people in the Murma. Then, we will move toward Jhaudi Khola for lunch. An hour walk from Jhaudi Khola and we will reach Bapeni. After passing a village, we will move through Nigalbot and Masane to reach Serkot. We will stay overnight in Serkot.

Day 5: Serkot to Jugala

After having breakfast, we will trek toward Ranakot. From Ranakot we will trek toward the small market of Majchaur. After Majchaure, we will move toward Paukipani. There are few some teashop in the Paukipani so we will rest and have our lunch. After having lunch, we will head toward Jamisera. Here, we will pass through the suspension bridge and come across some of the exciting waterfalls. Then, we will cross through Ratapani to reach Ama village. After reaching Ama village, we will head toward Rega village where we will see the first glimpse of Karnali river. After walking along the Karnali River, we will reach our campsite at Jugala. Here, we will stay overnight.

Day 6: Jugala to Kolti

After having our breakfast, we will cross the Karnali River on a suspension bridge. After, crossing the river, we will head to a small village on the bank of the Karnali River. There are few teahouses and lodges in Alange Chaur. From here, we will head to the lunch site at Chulighat Badhu. From Chulighat, we will move toward Badhu bagar along the banks of Kundana River. After two hours of trek, we will reach Partola. Kolti can be reached from Partola in half an hour.

Day 7: Kolti to Parekh Lake

From Parekh lake, we will head toward Ananda Nagar. From Ananda Nagar, we move toward our lunch site in Pandusen. There are many good hotels, drugstore, and schools in the Pandusen. After having our lunch in Pandusen, the trek passes through Angau Pani and Paurekhe Khad to reach the Parekh Lekh hilltop. We will stay overnight in the Parekh Lekh hilltop

Day 8: Parekh Lake to Martadi

Early morning we will head to Pugi Dami. At the pass through some of the beautiful forest, offering the opportunity to observe some of the exciting views of high altitude flora and fauna. From Pugi Dam, we will head to the teashops of Damkane. After trekking for three hours, we will reach our lunch site at Chulia. After having our lunch, we will move along BudhiNandi river to Martadi. Martadi is the main market area of the four districts so we will spend the night in the market.

Day 9: Martadi to Durlasan

After leaving Martadi, we will move toward Bire Khola. The walk aside Bire Khola is pleasing as you will witness some of the beautiful waterfalls along the way. After an hour of hike, we will reach our lunch site in Jadanga, a small valley with beautiful scenery. From Jadanga we will move toward Amakhot. Then, we will head toward Durlasan where we will spend a night.

Day 10: Durlasan to Lake Chaur

From the Durlasan we will pass through dense forest tor each Surkha Bazaar. After trekking for four hours, we will reach Dogadi village. We will have our lunch in this village. After lunch, we will hike toward the pastureland of Guliya Chaur. After a walk of an hour from Guliy chaur, we will reach Laske Chaur where we will spend a night.

Day 11: Lake Chaur to Khaptad

From Lake Chaur, we will pass through dense forest to travel inside the Khaptad National Park. During the walk, we will pass through some gorgeous view of the alpine forest. After walking for one and a half hour we will reach Bahulaune Patan. After having lunch, we will move toward headquarter of Khaptad National  Park and stay overnight at a riverside camp.

Day 12: Exploring Khaptad National Park

On this day, we will explore the Khaptad National Park. Khaptad National Park is a paradise of adventure. Khaptad National Park is home to some of the rare species of the flora and fauna. We will visit the sites nearby campsite such as Nagdhunga, kedardhunga, the temple of Shiva and Ganesh.
Day 13: Khaptad to Simalpani
After an hour of walk, we will leave headquarter of Khaptad National park and head to Lekhda. We will move toward our lunch site, Lamtada. After lunch, we will head to Sunar village. From Sunar village we will trek Two and half hour to reach Simalpani. We will camp at Simalpani for overnight.

Day 14: Simalpani to Tamali

After two hour hike from Simalpani, we will reach Tamaii. After reaching Tamaii, we will officially end our trek. From Tamali, we can board bus service to reach a different part of the country.

Day 15: Tamali to Dhangadhi

From Tamali, we will take bus service to Dhangadhi. It will take about 10 hours to reach Dhangadhi. From Dhangadhi, we can board a commercial airline to the Kathmandu.
